🔹 What is CTET
The Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) is conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to grant eligibility for teaching Classes I–V (primary) and Classes VI–VIII (upper primary) in schools across India — a prerequisite under the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) regulations.
For complete preparation, visit our State Exams page.
Qualifying CTET does not guarantee a teaching job; it only grants eligibility. Actual recruitment depends on separate hiring processes by respective school authorities. ✅ Eligibility Criteria for CTET 2026

📈 CTET Past 5 Years: Cut-offs & Qualifying Marks
While exact “cut-off score” (i.e. minimum marks to clear) depends on category and paper, generally the following is observed:
To qualify CTET, a candidate must secure at least 60% marks (i.e. 90 out of 150) in each paper.
For reserved categories (SC/ST/OBC/ PwD), many sources mention relaxation/leniency as per norms — but always check current notification.
Pass Rate Data (as per a recent summary)
Session / Paper Appeared Qualified / Pass % (approx.)
Dec 2022 Paper I 14,22,959 5,79,844 → ~40.72%
Dec 2022 Paper II 12,76,071 3,76,025 → ~29.44%
Aug 2023 Paper I 12,13,704 2,98,758 → ~24.61%
Aug 2023 Paper II 11,66,178 1,01,057 → ~8.66%
> ⚠️ Important: Lower pass percentage does not mean close to cut-off; many aspirants may score below 60%. The 60% qualifying mark remains fixed as per official rules unless changed.
Historically cut-offs (as per some unofficial summaries) for earlier years vary — but aspirants should aim for 90+ out of 150 to be safe.
📝 What CTET Certificate Means & What It Doesn’t
Once you qualify CTET with 60% (or as per current qualifying marks), you get a CTET certificate. Validity: earlier it was 7 years — but as per a recent public notice, CTET certificate is now valid for lifetime (unless notified otherwise).
But: It does not guarantee job. It only makes you eligible for appointment under recruiting agencies (State Govt, Central Schools, etc.).
🎯 Tips: How to Use This Guide
Check your educational qualification — ensure you meet criteria before applying.
Keep all academic documents ready (marksheets, teacher-training certificate or diploma, etc.).
Apply online as soon as CTET application opens — don’t wait for last date.
Aim for at least 95–105/150 marks to be on safe side (given competition).
Choose languages (Language I & II) wisely — your comfort with language impacts score significantly.
Practise using previous years’ question papers (available on official CTET site) for better preparation.
